Flahavan’s was crowned champion at the recent SEAI Energy Awards
Flahavan’s was crowned champion at the recent SEAI Energy Awards, in the Small and Medium Business category.
The Waterford company, which is Ireland’s oldest privately owned family business, has been milling oats for over 230 years and across seven generations at the family mill in Kilmacthomas.
Flahavan’s has four methods of energy generation – biomass from by-product, wind, solar and hydro all working in a complimentary manner. The company has its own on-site wind and water turbines, as well as solar panels which together generate 70% of the company’s total energy requirement for production. Flahavan’s has had a longstanding commitment to sustainable production and continues to source 100% of its conventional oats within a 60 mile radius of the Mill. The brand’s organic oat products continue to grow year on year, accounting for over 25% of its overall business. The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) works with the public, businesses, government and communities to achieve a cleaner energy future.
